Coach Tyler Mansfield
If your teen plays girls’ volleyball, swimming or boys’ track and field, you might already know Tyler Mansfield. The athletic dynamo was a three-sport athlete while at Bexley High School in those three same sports, earning varsity letters in each from her freshman to senior year.
Her record is impressive. “I earned a 4th place state finish in 2016 at my final swim meet as a Bexley lion. During this race I set the school record in the 50 freestyle,” Tyler says. In college at Ohio Wesleyan, she continued setting records in swimming and ran track.
After having great relationships with her coaches at Bexley, she was inspired to come back as a coach herself when she saw her old head coach, Shane Roberts, post about an opening for the boys’ track team. “He brought me back into the world of Bexley athletics,” she says.
“I have had a great time coaches kids at Bexley. I understand the culture because I went there myself and I feel like I can relate to them about more than just sports. I had some of the same teachers and went through some similar events that they are experiencing currently. I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching all of the athletes I’ve had thus far,” Tyler says.
What she likes most about coaching is “seeing athletes grow in their athletic ability as well as in their personal lives. Being a student athlete offers lots of challenges sometimes. I get a lot of fulfillment from seeing student athletes get better at their sport, mature, and gain new life skills.”
This school year, she hopes to continue building the programs she coaches. “I always encourage athletes to try something new, or participate in a different sport,” Tyler says. “I am excited to say every season I have coached athletes that are brand new to a sport. It’s both encouraging and inspiring to see an athlete try something new as a high school student and get better at that sport during their season.”
