Eastmoor and Bexley Young Residents Make Taking out the Trash a Lucrative Business

Not everyone dislikes taking out the trash. Inspired by neighbors who often forgot what day was garbage and recycling days, Eastmoor residents Avi (13) and Zach (11) Zofan saw an opportunity to build a business. Knocking on doors in their Central Eastmoor neighborhood, the entrepreneurial brothers secured loyal customers for the newly created Up and Down Garbage Men business. The premise, take down people’s trash bins the day before pick up and bring them back up the driveway or alley way the next day when they are empty.

Since launching in 2020, the pair proudly say they never missed a week and now have ten customers. “The best part is that we have earned lots of spending money!” says the Zofan boys. “Our friends started to notice that all the sudden we could buy things that maybe our parents wouldn’t pay for.”

Two of those friends were Bexley residents, Eli (10) and Noah (8) Kozberg. Upon moving to Central Bexley from South Bexley in 2022, the boys thought a new block was the perfect time to try their hand at expanding the business and approached the Up and Down Garbage Men about a franchise opportunity in Bexley.

Agreeing upon the terms (not competing for business and paying a yearly donation to the Up and Down Garbage Men’s charity of choice), the BB Trash Boys business was born. From Bexford to Bullit Park, Columbia and Parkview, you can find Eli and Noah loudly pulling trash and recycling bins twice their size on Sunday and Monday afternoons.

“On days when it’s cold or rainy, we remember this is usually fun - and we hope our customers like our work enough to still want to pay us!”
