Running for a Cause: Chad Eddy’s Journey to Raise Awareness and Funds for Cystic Fibrosis

Chad Eddy is on an inspiring journey advocating for a cure to Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Cystic Fibrosis, or “65 roses” according to many younger children who can’t pronounce the condition, is a disorder that damages the patient's lungs, digestive tract, and other organs. His efforts were inspired by his nieces Madi and Gabby being diagnosed with CF.

In October of 2022, Chad ran the Chicago Marathon alongside Madi, who is living with CF. The marathon was to honor the memory of Madi’s younger sister, Gabby, who tragically lost her battle with CF in 2017. Through their joint effort, they raised over $30,000 for the CF Foundation, driving Chad to do more.

During his training for the Chicago marathon, he discovered David Goggins’ 4x4x48 challenge raising money for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which entails running 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours straight. Chad completed this challenge, and then, inspired by the significance of the number 65 in the CF community, Chad developed a new one.

The 6.5x6.5x65 challenge involves running 6.5 miles every 6.5 hours for 65 consecutive hours, with the goal of raising $65,000 for CF research. He’ll be completing the challenge in early April.

For Chad, this challenge isn’t about running; it’s about leveraging his abilities to raise awareness and funds for a good cause. As a professional Entrepreneurial Operating System implementer who coaches start-ups and small businesses and a longtime Bexley resident, Chad understands the power of community and collaboration. His annual “Make CF History” Charity Classic hockey tournament and participation in events like the Chicago Marathon exemplify his commitment to making a difference.

As he prepares for the challenge, Chad invites others to join him in his mission. Chad says “I’m not one for the spotlight and this is not about me. But if I can do something to shine a light on CF, then that’s all that matters.”

With his wife and two children by his side, Chad continues to inspire and mobilize others to support the fight against cystic fibrosis. Through his resilience and compassion, Chad Eddy embodies the spirit of hope and solidarity in the face of adversity. Learn more and donate at https://passion.cff.org/65milesin65hoursforcf.
